Main Causes of Bad Breath

Bad breath (Halitosis) is a common dental & social problem affecting millions of people worldwide. Many studies and report have shown that bad breath does affect self-esteem and damages career prospects

Bad breath is mainly caused by volatile sulphur compound (hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, and dimethyl disulfide) that are produced by the metabolism of a group of oral bacteria.
These bacteria habitat in:
1.    between teeth and gum
2.    dental cavities
3.    food traps
4.    defective dental fillings or dental prosthesis (crowns, bridges and dentures).

Other causes of bad breath are:

5.   gum disease
6.   oral infection
7.   social habits – smoking
8.   food intake
